Local author releases second Sun Lakes mystery novel

Sun Lakes author Carmen Will

Sun Lakes author Carmen Will and Cozy Cat Press announce the release of Deadly Degree, the second novel in the Amanda Winters mystery series. Will is a freelance writer and editor whose first Amanda Winters mystery novel, Doubly Departed, was published in October, 2016. Will’s series is set in Sun Lakes and the surrounding area with a few interesting — at times crazy — side trips thrown in for good measure.

In Deadly Degree, after one of Amanda’s best friends is murdered inside St. Priscilla’s University basement archive, referred to by employees as “the Tomb,” she sets out to help Detective Roy Staatz find the killer. Amanda enlists the support of husband Terry, son Jeff, best friend Dinah and her endearingly kooky Aunt Sally as she goes about her investigation while struggling to overcome an assortment of phobias and anxieties known as “cluster C.” Amanda’s sleuthing takes her from one of the most prestigious universities in the East Valley, through gang-infested Phoenix neighborhoods, to the remote Supai Village at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Can Amanda find the killer before there’s another campus casualty? The answer lies within the pages of Deadly Degree.

All Cozy Cat Press mysteries, including Deadly Degree and Doubly Departed, are available in both print and Kindle formats on Amazon.com at amazon.com/author/carmenwill.cozymysteries.

Will, who earned a B.A. in Professional Communication with a specialization in writing and editing, lives in Sun Lakes, Arizona, with her husband Wayne.

In her book Doubly Departed, young Nathan Reynolds drowned in the Salt River near Arizona’s Tempe Town Lake, but someone shot him in the head before he died. Amanda Winters, Nathan’s godmother and best friend to Nathan’s mother Dinah, believes that his murder may be linked to the 10-year-old disappearance of Nathan’s father, corporate attorney Tom Reynolds. While fighting a debilitating panic disorder, Amanda sets out to help local homicide detective Roy Staatz solve Nathan’s murder. With help from her son, husband and quirky Aunt Sally, Amanda charts a course that leads her group of intrepid mystery hunters on a wild chase across the Mexican border, into an abandoned mine and even onto a pilotless plane soaring high above the mountains.
