Rev. Vernon Meyer, PhD, Pastor of Sun Lakes United Church of Christ will be presenting two classes on the Gospel of Matthew on Wednesdays, November 2 and 9 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Week One will focus on the background on Matthew’s Gospel with a view to the challenge of being Christian and Jewish and Week Two will focus on the Parables of Advent and the coming of God’s Reign as a gift. Matthew’s Gospel will be the Lectionary cycle in the coming year. As a Gospel written to a predominately Jewish community, the writer of the Gospel lays out the teachings of Jesus as a parallel to the Torah of the Hebrew Scripture. To hear and to internalize Jesus’ teachings is to be conformed to the life of Jesus. The presentations will be held at the Chapel Center located next door to the Sun Lakes Chapel located at 9260 Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248.
