The Anglers Club sponsors the Flea Market held in the SLCC parking lot on the third Saturday of the month. We use the money raised to put on the fishing derbies held during the spring and fall.

The fisher persons are usually disadvantaged fifth and sixth graders from local schools. The kids love the experience of fishing and learning to fish with a caring nonjudgmental adult. The club furnishes all equipment and bait and on some occasions helps with transportation from the flea market proceeds. We hope to continue to do 10-12 derbies each year.

We sell items donated to the club by Sun Lakers. We need small items for the sale. To donate items call Don Herring 480-802-9320 for pick up or drop off. Clothing has not been good but small items from your garage, kitchen and hobby room are popular. Space is available for your own items by contacting the SLCC office and there is a $5 fee. Hours are 7:00-10.30 a.m.

We also sponsor the Grandparents Derby on the Saturday of Easter weekend. There was a good turnout; 46 rods and reels were checked out and some fisher persons had their own equipment. Fishing was good and all participants left with a prize.

The Anglers Club welcomes all residents of greater Sun Lakes. We meet in the Mirror room at the SLCC at 7:00 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month (short meetings). Hope to see you at a meeting.

We also can use help with the derbies. You do not need to be a member to have a great time fishing with the kids. We fish at Lake 6 behind the SLCC offices 9.00-11:00 a.m. We are finished for the summer but fall dates will be in this article as soon as they are firm.
