President’s message
Here are some updates.
The sales tax audit continues at a tedious pace, and we are doing what we can to advance it. We, together with our legal counsel, have now imposed some dates into the process so we get a decision instead of questions and we can then decide to accept or appeal the decision. The process so far has been one where extension after extension is requested by the auditor, followed by more requests for documents, and that has to end. The relationship between us and the auditor has been cordial and businesslike, but we need to be done.
This board continues to be responsive to the membership and, to that end, a couple of months ago began the process of trying to respond at workshops to comment card issues as they are organized and presented to us by management. In addition, at the workshop last week, we took the first-time ever step of authorizing the posting of proposed resolutions on the website in advance of the board meeting to see how that works.
We are also nearly ready to present a study of our security system and review any suggested modifications. At the last workshop, we assigned Master Planning the task of researching the issue of whether we should be public, private or continue to operate as the hybrid we now are.
You will also notice that this board has attempted to provide our very valuable committees with louder and more prominent voices in delivering their messages to the board and membership with regular reports at board meetings. You will hear a few today.
Finally, a reminder to all committees and advisory groups is that in the conduct of their business, regular meetings are subject to the same notice and agenda requirements as board meetings.
