President’s message

David Erwin, President IronOaks HOA

As we are nearing the completion of the Oakwood restaurant and its opening, I want to thank all of you that have been patient and supported the Poolside Café. The food and service is just a hint of what Trish has in store for you at Oakwood. The transition is working! Brian and his staff have worked tirelessly: replacing the doors on the Oakwood Clubhouse, trimming trees, overseeing the seal coating, repairing the Halley fountain and the entrance to Ironwood, etc. The list is very impressive. I was at Chandler Regional Medical Center and a volunteer greeter came up to me. He has lived in Ironwood for almost 20 years. He had been away for the summer and just returned and played a round of golf. He said in all the time he has lived here, the courses have never looked better!

Mike Strong, our new Controller, has been here less than a month and is on a fast track. Mike, Brian and Frank Gould have had numerous discussions concerning the financials and the upcoming budget. It has become obvious that the software for our association has not had an in depth review for some time. Thus, the software and all related processes and procedures are being examined and updated. Jonas, our software provider, will be working with us to be sure we have the best modules and streamline procedures with the aim to increase efficiency and generate both complete and simplified financial reports in a timely manner. A Jonas program specialist will be on site to help and train staff.

We still have a number of open issues/projects that we can complete and decide what other possible projects to review and prioritize. We need to start the process now, and assess the viability and determine what we should bring forward in keeping with the core values for IronOaks. I will not attempt to list all the concepts at this time. However, there are a few that come to mind. They include (not in any particular order) changes in procedures or policies:

Hold the Change of Use Election for Pickleball

Parking

Employee parking – The new restaurant will have additional needs as it will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A remote employee parking lot at the Chandler Maintenance yard and a shuttle bus would free up spaces at the Clubhouse. The shuttle could be used for other purposes during off hours.

Additional spaces near the Oakwood Clubhouse would also ease the parking situation.

An Activity Center for our many card and game players.

The future status of Poolside.

The Park – a great deal of effort has gone into the planning and design.

The Fitness Center.

I am sure there are additional ideas and improvements that exist. All of these are not just the responsibility of this Board, but obviously for the next Board as well. This brings me to my last subject. We will be replacing three of the current Board positions next March. We will be losing the Treasurer, Secretary and a previous Board President with business and financial acumen. All these men have a knowledge of the history of the community. All have served on one or more committees. It is not too soon to look into your experience and skill set to see how best you could serve the community. If you are hesitant feel free to approach any Board member and ask questions. Look to your friends and neighbors. We all know someone who could serve and be an asset to IronOaks.
