Niners June Results

Well, the year is half over, and we are beginning to see the preparations for overseeding. Some courses will be closed periodically, starting in July, to allow the grounds crew to do their work. Irrigation replacement on the Lakes is going well.

Good guy. Sometimes we miss the little things—a pitch mark on the green or a couple of divots on the fairway. So, it is great that we have guys like Gary Russell. Gary works with the Adopt-A-Hole group fixing divots and pitch marks and disposing of broken tees around the boxes. On Fridays, Gary can be seen filling his sand bottles in preparation for doing a little fill-in on the fairways. We should help. It takes about 10 seconds to fill a divot or repair a pitch mark on the green. The sand is readily available in the parking lot, and most of us have at least one sand bottle on the cart. So, when you are out on the turf, fix your divot and one nearby and repair pitch marks on the green.

Heat stroke/heat exhaustion is serious. We know the conditions out on the golf course during the Arizona summer. What to do? Hydrate the previous day. During the round, take a drink (non-alcoholic) on each tee box. I carry frozen towels in a plastic bag, tucked into a thermal pack with a couple of frozen water bottles. If you have a cooler, fill it with ice and water and keep the towels wet and cold. Simple steps can be a lifesaver.
