The Oakwood Nine Hole Couples League has had a phenomenal year thus far. Our membership has grown to an all-time high with many couples playing for the first time together. Our motto for the year, “Fun, Fellowship, Good Food and Drink and, by the way, Golf” has been the catalyst for our membership growth. The motto also reflects the order of priority with our couples.

This year the league hosted its second annual social event for all members. After completing our round on Friday, March 11, we convened in the backyard of John and JoAnne Gaudioso; 66 members in addition to special guests from the Oakwood Pro Shop enjoyed a fun filled evening of Italian food from Amalfi’s as well as appropriate beverages.

In addition, members were treated to an evening of fun events including drawings for gift certificates from several restaurants, golf lessons, golf balls and towels, wine, calculators and the 50/50 raffle. All members were presented with a special ball marker which featured an image important to us — glasses of wine! A fun time was had by all. Special thanks to John and JoAnne Gaudioso, Lloyd and Susan Schaeffer and Lou and Dolly Giallonardo for their efforts in the planning of this special event.

This year, the league adapted the girls’ golf team from Chandler High School. Proceeds from the 50/50 drawing will be presented to representatives from the Arizona Women’s Golf Association on behalf on the Chandler girls’ team during our meeting in April.
