P.E.O. is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women. One of their many projects is PCE, Program for Continuing Education. This program presents need-based grants to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and their families. This past month, Chapter DD of Sun Lakes presented a check to Donna Herndon to help her continue her education in criminal justice.

Donna is a single mother of three who is attending ASU to get a degree in criminal justice. Donna supports her family by working at a child learning center at a community college while going to school full time. Ms. Herndon has worked in non-professional positions her entire life. At age 38, she felt the need to establish herself as a “career person,” building savings, a retirement account and self-esteem for both herself and her children. She plans to graduate from Arizona State University in May with a degree in criminal justice. After she graduates, she wants to pursue a career in the criminal justice system working with troubled youths.
