Propaganda will be Restless Minds topic

Propaganda seems to flourish today. We are simply buried in misinformation.

The Restless Minds group will discuss this trend during its January meeting. The group will meet from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10 in the Sewing Room of Oakwood’s Arts and Crafts Center.

Restless Minds is a discussion group receptive to all people with open, inquisitive minds. There are no dues or membership requirements. All political and social points of view are encouraged. Just show up and participate.

January’s discussion leader, Rod Hayward, promised a lively dialogue in which traditional views of American history will be challenged.

Issues and questions likely to be discussed include:

Do our political institutions need to rely on propaganda to survive? Could corporate America flourish without assailing its consumers with false claims? Do our schools need to teach biased history in order to create patriotic citizens for the future?

Most importantly, is propaganda an essential part of today’s world or is it an American phenomenon?

“It is said that America is a fearful nation. Does fear make us more vulnerable to propaganda?  How can we avoid being manipulated by bias?” Rod Hayward asks.
