Tuesday, November 15 is the date set for the Golf Fore Life event which raises funds to support research at the U of A Cancer Center in Tucson, Arizona. In the past two years alone, the combined effort of the Palo Verde and Cottonwood Ladies’ Golf Associations has raised over $25,000 to assist in the support of research grants leading to significant advances in the fight against cancer. The Center is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and our ladies are hoping to surpass previous years in the amount raised to support this worthy cause.

There are a number of ways community members can help in our endeavor to support the University’s research. Palo Verde men’s and ladies clubs and Cottonwood ladies may sign up as foursomes with other members, as well as guests, to play in the golf tournament which is held at the Palo Verde Country Club. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the respective clubs’ lounges in October. Teams will be selected to play on a first come, first served basis.

Also, residents may purchase a sign, or signs, in memory of loved ones who have passed or in honor of survivors. The cost is $30 per sign, and the signs are placed at each tee box throughout the course. This purchase, with a check written to U of A Cancer Center, is a tax free donation with money going directly to the Center.

Benefactors, those donating $500 or more to the U of A, will be recognized with a sign naming the private donor, or business, and will be placed prominently at the first tee staging area.

With a donation of $100 or more our corporate donors, local businesses supporting the event, will be recognized with signs noting the names of their businesses. We hope to completely fill up the area between the staging area and the first tee with these signs.

Private donations are highly encouraged as well. Any amount donated by an individual, or groups of individuals, will be welcomed and immediately forwarded to the University. Donations totaling $100 or more, with the addition of golf fees and hole sponsor sign fees, will also be recognized with signs posted near the first tee box.

Gift baskets will also be available for raffle on tournament day. This year’s selection will range in value between $200-$500 and will include items such as golf bags, golf accessories, spa items, a 20 person wine tasting, cash and many others.

This is a zero budget, volunteer supported event. All donations (golf fees, hole sponsors and individual donations) are tax deductible and are sent directly to the University. This is no small undertaking and we have many ladies working together to make this another successful year. A complete list of committee members and charitable donors will be recognized in the January Sun Lakes Splash. If you can help with a donation or you would like to purchase a sign or have an item to donate for the gift baskets, please contact Carol Ruff at 480-802-6517 or [email protected] or Sandy Eeds at 425-417-0709 or [email protected].
