The Sun Lakes Republican Club will feature “The State of Our State” with keynote speaker AZ State Senator JD Mesnard at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., in Sun Lakes. The public is invited. Please bring your neighbors and friends! Our mission is “education for an informed electorate.”
Since Feb. 14 is Statehood Day in Arizona, it is appropriate to review and discuss the current state of our state, county, and legislative district, as well as the top legislative and ballot issues in the 2024 General Assembly. It is well known that Governor Katie Hobbs has received the moniker of “The Veto Queen.” So, how likely is it that any legislation will get over the finish line? Senator JD Mesnard is well-qualified to assess this situation. How do we protect our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (property rights) in the current political climate?
J.D. Mesnard is in his second term as State Senator from District 13 (Chandler, Gilbert, and Sun Lakes). He previously served in the State House of Representatives for eight years, including as Speaker of the House for the last two years. He is a husband, father, small business owner, investor, and consultant, and he has always sought to be an active participant at all levels of the community. He works with charities, churches, and nonprofits and is adjunct faculty at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College where he has taught courses in political science for over a decade.
State Representative Julie Willoughby and former State Representative Jeff Weninger will also present their analysis and perspective of “The State of Our State.”
Representative Willoughby is a registered nurse with experience in various areas of healthcare and healthcare leadership, with a large portion of her career dedicated to trauma emergency medicine. Leading and advocating throughout her career spurred a desire to engage in the civic process and led her to the path of becoming an Arizona State Representative. Julie has a Bachelor of Science in nursing and is currently completing her Master of Science in nursing, with an emphasis on leadership and management. She sits on the Health and Human Services, Appropriations, and Judiciary Committees.
You will also hear from several important candidates for state and county offices. Please join us for what promises to be an informative look at “The State of Our State” in 2024! For more information, visit our website www.slgop.org or contact Mike Tennant at 262-880-4620.
