Hadassah is a philanthropic organization which strives to make a difference in today’s world by uniting women worldwide to change lives through healing and teaching in Israel and enhancing Jewish living in America. As part of this large organization, Shalom Hadassah is comprised of women of all ages, backgrounds, religions and socio-economic classes who enjoy getting together to have fun, learn new things, be entertained and socialize. Often, there is a nominal fee charged which offsets our costs and allows us to make donations to one of the many causes Hadassah supports.

A lot of our fundraising efforts go toward medical research and treatments at Hadassah Hospital on Mt. Scopus in Jerusalem. Through our efforts, as well as those of other women, doctors and researchers at Hadassah Hospital have developed many new treatments for traumatic injuries as well as better ways of treating multiple deadly diseases. All patients at Hadassah Hospital are treated equally, regardless of ethnicity, religion, socio-economic class or their ability to pay. On any given day, you will see a united nations of people being treated, visiting or providing services to the many patients and families in the hospital, its clinics or laboratories.

Shalom Hadassah is winding down for the summer, but we will be back in full force in the fall. Our first event will be a potluck dinner on October 16, 2018, at Doris Codkind’s home. More information will follow as the date gets closer. Look for our articles in this local paper or calendar events on the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation (SLJC) or the East Valley Jewish Community Center (EVJCC) websites. Our events are open to the public, and we would love to have you join us. In the meantime, have a happy and wonderful summer, and we hope to see you in the fall.
