On Saturday, January 10 we had our first ever Willie’s Shootout at High Noon at the Oakwood Pool Room. The tournament was a bracketed, single elimination tournament, won by none other than Keith “The Rabbi” McDonald, who vanquished a field of eight players to become the first champion of Willie’s High Noon Shootout.

As administrators, we strive to give our avid pool players every opportunity to compete. We have billiards 8-Ball play on Tuesdays, starting at 11:30 a.m. and a second session starting at 2:00 p.m. On Thursdays, we have billiards 8-Ball play starting at 10:00 a.m. and a second session starting at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday mornings, we offer billiards 9-Ball play starting at 10:00 a.m.; afterward we also have our shootout, which is a blind draw, bracketed 8-Ball tournament. Willie’s Shoot Out at High Noon begins at Noon.

In addition to these activities, we have a Traveling Tournament team competing in matches with the team from Mission Royale in Casa Grande. There is a traveling team trophy which is proudly displayed on a designated shelf located in each club’s poolroom by the winning team. The Oakwood team was victorious in last month’s competition and hoped to retain the trophy when the Mission Royale team returned to Oakwood on Saturday, February 7. On Saturday, February 28 our team traveled to Mission Royale for the return match. These pool matches are very spirited with each team badly wanting to retrieve or retain the coveted trophy for their respective poolrooms.

We invite any players to join us who are members of the IronOaks Homeowners Association and are in good standing. We presently have 41 active members and would like to see our group grow to 50. So if you are someone who played pool earlier in your life and your wife would like to get you off of the couch doing something really fun during the week, then come join us.

If you are interested in joining or would like additional information please contact the Godfather/Chairman of the league, David Mork, by e-mail at [email protected] or contact our Tournament Director Willie Foster by e-mail at [email protected].
