Short Line Model Railroad Club meeting September 8

Harry Huckemeyer

The Short Line Model Railroad will be getting back to business after a short summer shutdown with several new and exciting things already falling into place. Our next meeting is scheduled for September 8 at 9:30 a.m. in the Lakeview Room, located at the SunBird Community Center. As always, interested parties are always welcome to attend our meetings. For those who are interested, I believe you will be surprised at how all the new modern technologies that have come into play over the years have added new tools for the hobbyists to put into good use.

As the summer heat becomes a thing of the past, activities that enhance the lives of all who reside in the Valley come back to life. It’s a good time to keep your calendars handy, as shortly after the Labor Day holiday, opportunities start to come into play rather quickly, regardless of what your interests are. October kicks things off as several of the local communities will be having their annual Community Days that run into early November. Additionally, around the Valley, there are several major events and activities that you may want to consider that become available during that time period.

For you train enthusiasts and also visitors, you may want to consider a short trip up the 101 to the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park for their annual Rail Fair taking place October 6 and 7. For the young at heart, there are rides for all to enjoy, food; you’ll have the good fortune to walk through their beautiful grounds looking at the many participating local railroad clubs having their operating displays available for the public to see. Also, keep in mind that on the 27th of October, “Neighbors Who Care” will be having its Sixth Annual Fair which will really be special this year, with many extras like a car show, a dunk tank, live music, trains, food and much more. I even heard rumors that it may be a good idea to show up with your dancing shoes this year. Just a thought. Check it out.
