Sun Lakes (Evening) Lions Club: HeARTsy Program
Christine Linder
Sun Lakes (Evening) Lions Club is helping to change lives through art. We were introduced to Tina Ferguson, executive director of HeARTsy, who brings free arts programming to low-income, underserved communities that are most in need of the social and medical benefits that the arts provide.
The members were told that HeARTsy is dedicated to bringing culturally diverse, age- and ability-appropriate, bilingual fine arts programming to underserved, low-income populations. Our mission is to embrace the humanity in each of our students, upholding their dignity and creating opportunities that give hope, inspire confidence and pride, and cultivate belonging. Grounded in love, joy, purpose, and meaning, we provide support and services that make a positive difference in our students’ lives by honoring intrinsic worth, celebrating unique gifts and abilities, and guiding individuals to live life to the fullest. With the many health benefits of fine arts programming, our students will become empowered, engaged, and enlightened on multiple mediums of art while also building long-term, meaningful friendships!
Breakfast Lions Continue Partnership with the Quilters
Brian Curry
The Sun Lakes Quilting Ladies continued their longtime partnership with the Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club (SLBLC) and their annual special Christmas donation to Neighbors Who Care (NWC). Recently, at the NWC offices, Joyce Davey, representing the Sun Lakes Quilting Ladies, presented 47 lap quilts and 30 placemats to NWC Director Sheryl Keeme and NWC Case Manager Bonnie Kosar for the season. This joint community project between the Sun Lakes Quilting Ladies and the SLBLC began in 2019 and, to date, more than 231 lap quilts and 156 placemats have been donated. While the Quilting Ladies do all the work, the SLBLC provides the financial support. In addition, the SLBLC provides a special donation for a holiday basket.
