The Sun Lakes Fire Department gratefully accepted a $1,200 donation recently from the Sun Lakes Rotary Club that was used to purchase a “Dash-Cam” for the Battalion Chief’s vehicle.

The Dash-Cam is a state of the art new tool used by fire departments, ambulance corps and law enforcement for a variety of reasons. There are many models and sizes of dash-cam you can buy from places such as BBMC and they are extremely useful pieces of equipment to have.

Battalion Chief Tim Kelly described some of the usages of the small camera mounted on the windshield of the chief’s car. “This will keep an on scene record of an entire call from the start of a response to the finishing of a call which we will use to enhance safety, for training purposes and especially critiquing incidents.”

A small box on the left side of the rear view mirror shows the driver what the camera sees as the video runs in a continuous loop. Kelly said that the video has already been tested on a training drill at the Chandler Fire Academy and passed with flying colors.
