Sun Lakes Rotary Communications Committee
The Sun Lakes Rotary Club, a service organization, has been meeting for 34 years, providing community support for education, literacy, and veterans, and providing clothing, food, and supplies for children and families in need.
Sun Lakes Rotary has just inducted its newest club president, Jon Lyons. Outgoing president Bill Crump oversaw a year like no other—finding ways for members to connect and remain safe through Zoom meetings, to move annual events to online versions, and to maintain momentum for the many projects the club supports.
Those projects include the annual Pancake Breakfast and Charity Golf Tournament, support for education through the schools in the Chandler Unified School District, support for literacy through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and support for water access and sustainability through the Navajo Nation Water Project. These are just a few of the many ways Rotary interacts with the community.
President Lyons said he looks forward to the challenges and anticipates building on the work of out-going President Crump. Currently, Sun Lakes Rotary holds weekly Tuesday meetings through Zoom, alternating between morning (7 a.m.) and evening (5 p.m.). July’s meetings included Elizabeth Vaughan from Neighbors Who Care and a presentation by students from two of Chandler’s high schools.
Among upcoming speakers is Arizona Public Health Association Executive Director Will Humble, who will provide an update and discuss the best methods for staying healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic on Aug. 11.
If this sounds like an organization for you, please consider joining our 80-plus members for one of our club meetings through Zoom (www.us02web.zoom.us/j/8947017754) until we can reunite at Palo Verde Country Club in Sun Lakes. For questions, please contact Club Membership Chair Chuck Hawkins at 503-502-7562, [email protected], or visit our website at www.sunlakesrotary.com or our Facebook page.
Our guiding principles in Rotary are as follows:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to ALL concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and better friendships?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
