Sandra Whittenberg, Chairman
VFW Auxiliary 8053 is very grateful to Wal-Mart for partnering with us in our efforts on behalf of veterans and their families in our local area! Mr. Liquori affirms that “we must take care of our veterans and their families.”
This $1,000 Wal-Mart grant will be spent on local veterans and their families. Following are a few of the ways we support our troops and families locally:
Christmas parties for the children of our Adopted Arizona National Guard Unit 3666; helping to fund items for hygiene bags distributed to approximately 200 at a Homeless Haircut Marathon for both men and women in the Phoenix area; material support to families of military members who are killed or seriously injured, whether they were deployed overseas, or killed or seriously injured here at home; and sponsoring events for several hundred youth who have one or both parents either already deployed or soon to be deployed. This event is called Operation Kids and was held on October 25 at Luke Air Force Base. The kids have experiences set up for them to participate in that simulate what their deployed parent is experiencing overseas. Sun Lakes VFW Post 8053 provided drinks, snacks and a goody bag for each child.
VFW Auxiliary offers ladies the opportunity to know a great group of women and to participate in many very worthwhile activities supporting veterans and their families in our own community. If you are interested in becoming a member contact Membership Chairman Carolyn Barrans at 480-802-7757.
