SunBird’s Desert Navy Club explores reorganization

After a five year hiatus, former Desert Navy Club members will explore reorganizing the club at a meeting and luncheon on Friday, November 21 at SunBird Golf Resort in Chandler to be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Lakeview Room; the meeting will be followed by lunch in SunBird’s Horizon Room Restaurant. Club spokesman David Riggall said the club, founded in 1999, was viable for nearly 10 years before declining numbers made it necessary to disband. Riggall states an influx of new veteran residents in SunBird, Sun Lakes and surrounding communities in the Valley may support the viability of the reorganization. Since 2009 club members have continued to informally meet monthly for breakfast and camaraderie.

Club activities included speakers, day trips, a luncheon in the Officer’s Club and tour of Luke Air Force Base, Falcon Field Air Museum, visits to veterans at the VA Veteran’s Home and participation in the annual Ira Hayes Memorial Parade in Sacaton, among others.

Former Navy, Marine and Coast Guard veterans are invited to attend this exploratory meeting to express their interest in a veterans Navy Club in our community. Contact David Riggall at 480-688-0646 for information and to express your interest in attending the meeting and luncheon.
