Thanksgiving Turkey Drive

On Sunday, November 16 the congregation of Risen Savior Lutheran Church will be donating frozen turkeys or checks to assist the Chandler Food Bank in helping less-fortunate families in our community prepare turkey dinners on Thanksgiving.

Invites Sun Lakes Community Participation

Risen Savior is also inviting their neighbors in the Sun Lakes Community to join in sharing their blessings by donating a small to medium sized frozen turkey. The turkeys should cost about $15 to $20 each. For people who wish to donate, but prefer not to directly purchase a frozen turkey, the Food Bank will gladly accept checks in any amount which will be used to buy turkeys. Of course, those who have been blessed with the means to do so may donate as much as they wish. The need is great. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 800 turkeys in food boxes.

Together We Can Make a Substantial Difference

Rev. Ron Burcham, Senior Pastor of Risen Savior commented, “We know that as individuals we can make a difference, but if we pool our resources and join together as one, we can have a substantial impact in Chandler neighborhoods this Thanksgiving. Last May, our congregation held a Spring Food Drive that also benefited the Chandler Food Bank. We collected and donated 3.6 tons of food – enough to serve over 5,500 meals. I am very proud of our congregation for creating, managing and contributing to these momentous community outreach projects.”

Turkeys and checks will be received at the Risen Savior parking lot on Sunday, November 16 from 2:00-5:30 p.m. There will be a refrigerated truck from the Food Bank on site to collect the turkeys. All donors will receive a receipt for their tax-deductible donations.

Make a Donation? Enjoy a Dessert

In addition, Burcham stated, “We invite everyone who stops by with a donation to take time to enjoy a slice of pie, a piece of cake, or assorted cookies and a beverage on our patio. This is our way of saying thank you to donors for sharing God’s blessings with our neighbors in need, many of whom are struggling just to put food on the table – when our pantries are full. So bring your spouses, friends, or family members and join us in celebrating this season of Thanksgiving.”

Those who wish to donate, but are unable to attend on November 16 may mail their checks to Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Rd., Chandler, AZ 85248. Please make the check payable to the Chandler Christian Community Center, the parent of the Chandler Food Bank. Also, please write Attention: Turkey Drive on the envelope. One hundred percent of donations and turkeys received will be given directly to the Chandler Food Bank for their emergency food boxes. For further information please refer to our ad on page ___.
