What is Dementia? This was the topic of discussion at the Perfect Place Saturday morning, May 29. Debra Dyjak, representing the Arizona Center on Aging, engaged our group with research, anecdotes and group participation. We left with a greater knowledge of the many types of dementia, strategies useful for volunteers and support techniques to help caregivers. The Perfect Place has realized an increase in our number of participants as well as increased support from our community. We are seeking more volunteers and providing more training for volunteers and caregivers. We credit this success to our extensive outreach program and our recently-formed Sun Lakes Creative Engagement Partners, all working together creating programs for those with related challenges. The partnership also includes Neighbors Who Care, Oakwood Creative Care, Alzheimer’s Association, Tessa Wendt and Wayne Mangold, all supported by the Cottonwood Palo Verde Foundation.

The Perfect Place is located on the campus of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Sun Lakes. We are a nonprofit, faith-based adult care center. Our volunteers are knowledgeable of Alzheimer’s, dementia, developmental disabilities and various adult neurological challenges. Most of us have had a loved one for whom we were a caregiver. We enjoy what we do.

If you believe your family or caregiver would benefit from this service or training, please contact Eileen Curran or Judy Waltersdorf at The Perfect Place, 480-895-2892.
