January was better in Sun Lakes than most parts of the country. It’s why the Palo Verde Ladies Golf Association (PVLGA) posted such great scores. Check it out:

1/08. Crier’s Tournament. Not many ladies were crying when they got to throw out their worst three scores and take pars on those holes. The morning winners were Flight 1: Dolores Allard (46), Colleen Mitchell (50) and Nancy Howell and Diane Tenney (tied – 52); Flight 2: Anita Barber and Cathy Brabant (tied – 48) and Zara Logan (50); Flight 3: Sandy Chavez (47) and Carolyn Agre and Sharon Eisenzimmer (tied – 49); Flight 4: Wanda Wiggins (40) and Laura Carothers and Marsha Deuel (tied- 46). The afternoon winners were Flight 1: Gail Wooldridge (48), Pat Tjosvold (55) and Mary Nelson and Linda Weber (tied – 57); Flight 2: Lois Fitzsimmons (44) and Naomi Bryson and Mary La Tourelle (tied – 50). One of the great events of the afternoon was a hole-in-one scored on the 5th hole by Kathryn Campbell. Congratulations to all our winners. And what a great day for Kathryn!

1/15. PV Combo. The ladies played 18 holes. After the round was over, they selected the scores on the best six par 3’s, two par 4’s and one par 5. Half of the individual’s handicap was subtracted and used to calculate the tournament score. The results were Flight 1: Dolores Allard (21.5), Terry Gaube (22.5) and Jo Crook (25); Flight 2: Susie Buell (21.5), Jan Nelson (23) and Anita Barber and Mary Billideau (tied – 24); Flight 3: Carolyn Agre and Sharon Eisenzimmer (tied – 22) and Eva Keith (22.5); Flight 4: Elaine Isaacson (21.5) and Naomi Bryson and Wanda Wiggins (tied – 23.5).

1/22. Scramble. A four-member scramble was chosen for the third tournament of the month followed by a fun luncheon. The winners were First: Dolores Allard, Lois Fitzsimmons, Jane Lewis and Lynnette Liffrig (32); Second: (two teams tied at 36.25) Eva Keith, Pat Schultz, Billie Seiberling and Christy Thomas tied with Kay Berner, Gwen Curtis, Rosemary Hames and Cindy Ryan. Well done, ladies!

1/29. Cottonwood – Palo Verde Select-a Drive Tournament. Four-member teams from the Cottonwood and Palo Verde ladies clubs played nine holes on each course. The best drive was picked on every hole, and then the ladies played their own ball to the end of the hole. The best two scores on each hole counted toward the team score. The team winners were First: Gloria Combs, Joan Irwin, Vanessa Heimgartner and Bonnie Kane (99); Second: Helen Jeub, Kathy Komishke, Mary Nelson and Kat Widmer (100); Third: Naomi Bryson, Rose Hames, Bonnie Moore and Cindy Ryan (103). Great scores for everyone!
