Update from the Sun Lakes Post Office

Here is some useful information about the services provided at the Sun Lakes Post Office. Packages weighing less than 13 ounces would ship as a first-class package, which takes about three days. Packages weighing over 13 ounces would ship as a retail ground package and can take a week to arrive. Or you can use Priority Mail which takes two to three days to arrive. Flat Rate Priority boxes are available near the work station desk. These will save money on heavy packages that are going farther than about 400 miles. All other packages are priced based on their weight, volume and the distance to the destination. Use the USPS.com website to estimate the cost of your package. There is a media mail rate for packages that contain only books, manuscripts, cassette tapes or CDs. Media mail will also take about a week to arrive. Media mail items cannot contain advertising. Media rate packages are x-rayed by the Postal Service to confirm the contents meet the criteria.

Our weekday afternoon pickup is around 3:30 p.m. Items mailed AFTER that pickup will be dated for and go out the next business day, usually around noon. We CANNOT process Next Day Express Mail after our morning pickup, which is around 11:30 a.m. We CAN process international letters and international large flat envelopes containing paper and are no more than 3/4-inch thick. We CAN accept PREPAID international packages, but you must complete the proper custom forms online, pay the postage online and bring the printed USPS label. Do NOT tape the label to the package – we have plastic sleeves for the label to secure it to the package, and we must make a copy for our records. We will refer you to the Chandler Heights Post Office for all unpaid International Packages.

ALL packages have tracking numbers. Use Certified Mail for letters and large envelopes to have a tracking number and require a signature when delivered. The forms for Certified Mail are located at the work station desk. Please have the form completed before you approach the clerk’s window. There is an option to see the signature online, which costs less than the optional green return card. We cannot provide insurance for checks, cash, gift cards, etc. Use Certified Mail to send such things.

Priority Mail has $50 of insurance included. You can add insurance coverage to any package. You will need to have a receipt or something showing the value of an item to file a claim. Registered Mail is a very involved secure mailing method, usually for very valuable packages. It needs to be done earlier in the day, and not all clerks are trained in the procedure. You may be referred to the Chandler Heights Post Office.

We only process outgoing mail. For questions about home-delivered mail, you will need to visit the U.S.]
