One of the programs of the VFW Auxiliary is Veteran’s and Family Support. In partnership with our VFW Post 8053, the Auxiliary has adopted National Guard Unit 3666. Recently, one of the members of that unit was killed in an auto accident. The Post and Auxiliary donated $300 to purchase books and educational materials for the two children of the Guard member. Another upcoming activity for this program is Operation Kids at Luke Air Force Base on October 25. Children of active duty personnel get to visit the base and experience what deployment is like for their parents. The Auxiliary will be providing drinks and goodie bags to the children.

Another program of the Auxiliary is Youth Activities. Auxiliary 8053 has adopted a second grade class at Mesa Arts Academy. Volunteers will have their first event with the class on September 26. In addition to donating things to this class and the students, the Auxiliary brings information on patriotism to the classroom.

Other programs of the Auxiliary are legislative, hospital, cancer aid and research and scholarship. These offer many opportunities for members to participate. If you are interested in joining this great group of women in supporting veterans and our community, please call Membership Chairman Carolyn Barrans at 480-802-7757.
