Understanding the Condition That Deserves Recognition and Compassion
Lipedema is a chronic, progressive fat-distribution disorder that primarily affects women. It is often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed as simple weight gain, even though it has distinct clinical features: symmetrical fat accumulation in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes arms; pain and tenderness; easy bruising; and a feeling of heaviness that does not respond to diet or exercise.
Unlike typical adipose tissue, lipedema fat is fibrotic, inflamed, and resistant to metabolic change. This means women can be doing “everything right” and still experience worsening symptoms. For many, lipedema impacts mobility, confidence, and daily life—and the emotional toll can be just as significant as the physical one.
Women living with lipedema deserve care that is safe, validating, and clinically informed. At ABG Wellness in Sun Lakes, Kathy Porter is a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT) who provides specialized support rooted in advanced lymphatic training and trauma-informed practice.
ABG Wellness serves Sun Lakes, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and the East Valley, offering individualized care plans that help women navigate lipedema with clarity, confidence, and compassionate support.
