On Saturday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m., we will be holding our sixth annual Halloween Pet Parade. Once again, our location will be Lake Diamond in Oakwood, as it offers a fun morning in a beautiful setting.

This event is open to all Sun Lakes residents, their families and friends. The stars of the show are always your beautiful dogs, both costumed and non-costumed. Be creative, as the costume competition is stiff, and we only have so many prizes to award our winners.

The categories are:

Best Costumed Small/Medium Breed Dogs

Best Costumed Large Breed Dogs

Most Creative Costume Concepts

Three prizes will be awarded in each category!

Thinking of adopting a dog for your family? Rover’s Rest Stop will once again be on hand with some of their adoptable dogs. Dee and her tireless staff of volunteers have placed many loving dogs in Sun Lakes homes. Each of their “adoptees” is housebroken before placement is made. For more information you can visit their website at Roversreststop.com.

Gerad and Debbie Claseman, along with Pat Wenning of The American Service Animal Society, a Sun Lakes based organization devoted to training service animals for America’s veterans, will be on hand, as well as a representative from Pawsitive Therapy Dogs, an offshoot of A.S.A.S. If you have a pet with a calm and well socialized demeanor you may want to ask about getting your dog trained and certified to be a therapy dog.

Our rescue group, as well as the American Service Animal Society, can always use monetary donations. Please bring a few extra dollars to give to these worthy causes.

Although the event is free, we do urge you bring a donation of any of the following pet related: Rescue groups, such as Rover’s Rest Stop, rely heavily on the following items to help feed and make comfortable the animals they are trying to place in homes: Unopened bags or cans of pet food and treats; gently used leads, collars, pet blankets, pet beds or toys; food and water bowls, as well as towels. We will have bins available for these donations which are given to Rover’s Rest Stop at the end of the event.

Looking forward to another great event!
