Let’s all prepare for summer golf in Arizona. Sun block; put it on, rub it in and repeat as necessary. Bug repellant; spray it on to keep mosquitoes and black flies from taking a bite out of you and leaving some nasty virus or germ behind. Frozen towels to keep cool, or try one of the new cool cloths sold in the Pro Shop. I have one and I wet it, freeze it overnight and use it to keep feeling cooler. Cold sports drinks in insulated containers to replace electrolytes lost during the round. And, don’t forget to hydrate before, frequently during and then after a round of golf. Nothing spoils a good days golf like a sunburn, a bug bite and heat stress. You might want to choose lightweight clothes as well. Okay, now you are ready to tee it up.
Palms Course renovation project progresses. Work began on May 12 with the trucks and heavy equipment arriving on site. Miles of pipe to create the new irrigation system have been delivered and some are already in place underground. Many bunkers have been dug out, edged and prepared for the installation of the Billy Bunker System® process. Dead trees, badly distressed trees and dangerous trees have been trimmed or removed completely. Tee boxes that have been uneven or off kilter for years have been dug up and leveled and will be restored to provide a fair and flat surface to tee up your ball. While I am on the subject of the Palms course renovation, I need to remind all golfers that the course is closed to all homeowners, golfers and sightseers until the official reopening. That means no cart rides, no evening walks with the dog and no unofficial inspections. The Palms course is currently a construction site not a park. Stay safe.
