Now in our 11th year of service, the Sun Lakes Citrus Sharers are once again ready to pick the surplus fruit in the Sun Lakes communities. We will have our annual Kickoff Koffee on Saturday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the Navajo Room located at Sun Lakes Country Club.
What began as a handful of friends gleaning the fruit from a small number of trees, has now grown to eight teams which picked a record 57 tons from 466 residences! Not only do we help our neighbors, we donate the fruit to the local food bank – so nothing goes to waste!
This year we will begin picking on Saturday, January 28 and finish on Monday, February 27. We pick five consecutive Saturdays and Mondays between 8:00 a.m.-noon. Not only do we need help picking the fruit, you can help gather, carry, or sort by type and quality. We can always use an extra hand at the “Citrus Central” locations – one of our garages within the Sun Lakes area.
If you have picked with us in the past, or had your trees picked, you should already be in our database and will be hearing from us. If you would like to join, or just confirm you are in the system, please contact us at the numbers below:
To be a picker call Roxy at 480-899-5696
To have your trees picked call Linda at 480-895-8325
With an existing database of 466 homes, you can imagine there may be a waiting list to get picked – but be patient. We always do our best to help everyone! If you are unable to attend the Kickoff Koffee but would like to join a team please join us Saturday, the 28th at 7:45 a.m. at Citrus Central No. 1 located at 25825 S. 99th Dr., Sun Lakes 85248, in the Cottonwood development south of the tennis courts.
