Jim Wegman, Publicity
Sadly, I must report the passing of former league member Wesley Thrash. Wes was a quiet gentleman and an accomplished golfer. He enjoyed the game and afterward the social time at the Poolside Grill with his fellow Niners. To Wesley’s wife Linda and the entire Thrash family, we extend our sincere condolences on his passing.

Palms Course Renovation Project: The work on the Palms course is going well and, despite the storms that blew through Sun Lakes recently, we expect to be very close to finishing the project on time. The “Billy Bunker” crews have been busy renovating the old bunkers. Some bunkers have retained their original shape while some have been reshaped. The date for the grand opening of the Palms course has not been set, but some of the activities being planned include walking tours of the course, a set up by our Food and Beverage Department on the driving range and more. Stay current with the course renovation by checking the IronOaks web site and reading SITL.
Pace of Play: While I am a big advocate of “play without delay,” I am also sensitive to the needs of our membership. There are many factors that affect our pace of play. The most obvious of these are advanced ages, new golfers, physical condition, yardages, course conditions, weather and, most prominently, playing ability. That is not to say that the player has no responsibility to try to play at a pace that will see a nine hole round on our courses finished in two hours. Here are a few things to consider: try for no more than 30 seconds on each stroke. If you are 80 years young make the decision to move to the forward tees. Play “ready golf” and be prepared, club in hand. Drop off your cart partner and move safely to your ball. Take extra clubs, just in case. Always have an extra ball in your pocket. Prepare for your putt while others are putting out. Park the cart behind the green.
We all share the responsibility to maintain an appropriate pace of play.
