Sun Lakes United Methodist Church (SLUMC) will again host “Tuesday Nights Together,” a series of free summer programs on Tuesday evenings in June, July and August. Topics vary from light and entertaining to more serious and important to our community. Everyone is welcome.
Each Tuesday event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Lindsay Hall at Sun Lakes UMC. The programs will last an hour or so; no reservations required. Show up at the church and spend a great evening.
Mark your calendars for the June lineup:
June 6 – An Explosive Evening of Music, Tried ‘N True! – The extraordinary duo of Cris and Bart Evans will bring their musical talents to kick off the summer series. The evening of music will be based on familiar hymns and songs old and new. There will be solos by Cris and Bart joined by other small groups. There might even be a sing-along. So come with your heart and mind open to some great music to inspire and encourage you! Bring a friend or neighbor and enjoy a wonderful evening. Cris is the music director at Sun Lakes UMC and also directs the Sun Lakes Chorale. Bart is the choir director at Mesa Community College.
June 13 – A Korean War Veteran’s Amazing Story – (Part 1 of 2) Sun Lakes UMC is honored to have Major Arden Rowley, USA (Ret.) with us to share his experiences during the Korean War, with three years spent as a Prisoner of War (POW). Major Rowley taught in the Mesa School District for 31 years after his military service. Since his retirement, he has been a frequent speaker around the Phoenix Valley, sharing his experiences to many grateful audiences. It is a special privilege for us to hear a “first person account” of a historical event.
June 20 – The Repatriated POWs from the Korean War – (Part 2 of 2) Major Arden Rowley, USA (Ret) will deliver his second installment on the Korea by sharing the stories of those veterans who lost their lives and were returned to their families with dignity and respect. The repatriation of our POWs is an ongoing task … until they are all really “home.”
June 27 – A Route 66 Adventure with Dick Vogel – Dick Vogel will take you on a virtual trip from Chicago to Los Angeles … 2000 miles on the historic Route 66. Visit old motels, eat at roadside cafes, go to the drive-in movies, pump your own gas and sit awhile in the unique “outhouses” of Route 66. Relive those great adventures you enjoyed so many years ago! Dick is a popular and enjoyable speaker in the Sun Lakes area and beyond!
The remaining lineup of our Tuesday Nights Together series, to be held in July and August, will be published in future issues of the Splash. If you have any questions about the series, please contact Bev Tarpley, SLUMC Education Committee Chairperson, via the church office at 480-895-8766. Sun Lakes United Methodist Church is located at 9248 E. Riggs Road in Sun Lakes. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
