Sun Lakes United Methodist Church (SLUMC) hosts a series of free programs during the summer known as “Tuesday Nights Together.” Topics vary from light and entertaining to more serious and important. The programs are held each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Lindsay Hall, at Sun Lakes UMC, 9248 E. Riggs Road. Mark your calendars for the August lineup!
August 1 – New Adventures in Learning (NAILS) – Tony Contrabasso of the New Adventures in Learning (NAILS) program, Chandler-Gilbert Community College/Sun Lakes campus, will explain what NAILS is and how to take advantage of the many courses and presentations NAILS provides for the Sun Lakes/Chandler community throughout the year. Tony will show you how to enroll and how you can become a speaker for NAILS to share your own ideas and experiences.
August 8 – Area Agency on Aging Update: DOVES program update and a new initiative – Gerry Kroloff will provide an update on the DOVES program for victims of elder abuse which Sun Lakes UMC supports through ministry outreach to the community. Gerry is an exciting and enthusiastic speaker, and her presentations are always uplifting about this work. She will share the newest program focused on the Native American community, avoiding diabetes and heart disease through education, diet and exercise.
August 15 – Welcoming the Stranger – Judi Edmonds will share her experience of over 15 years in leading a church refugee ministry. There are refugees from Asia, the Middle East and Africa who now call the Valley of the Sun home and are working to build new lives for themselves and their families. She will discuss how they are vetted and approved for settlement to the U.S., what happens to them when they arrive and how, as followers of Jesus, we can reach out to them.
August 22 – An Evening with Reverend Marvin Arnpriester, SLUMC Senior Pastor – Sun Lakes United Methodist Church is delighted Rev. Marvin is back for a third year as senior pastor. He is always an enjoyable and interesting speaker with a deep knowledge of scripture and church doctrine. He will focus on the topic of HEAVEN and his perspectives. He will also share the perspectives of Heaven common in other religions across the world. This evening will be an enlightening event as we all consider our own vision of HEAVEN.
August 29 – A Glimpse of General William Sherman from the Civil War – Our very own SLUMC member Roger Sherman is a descendant of General Sherman! He has acquired information through research and visits to various sites from the Civil War. Join us for insight into a notable historical figure and a view of how to research information about your ancestors.
