It’s the sizzling season at PVMGA. We’re still hanging in there and we know how to keep cool when need be; hot golf and cool drinks afterward. Good golf, great friends and lots of fun, that’s what a golf club is all about.
This edition of the PVMGA started out on July 12 with a 3-2-1 format, 3 best ball nets on the par 5’s, 2 best balls on par 4’s and 1 on par 3’s, and our winning foursome with a 72 total net was Jack Hill, Gary Whiting, Joe Dingeldine and Craig Freerksen. On July 19 we had a Stableford format and the winning team with a 104 was Scott DeMichael, Gene Wenger, Pete Dalecio and Bill Foreman.
On July 26 we had our Criers Tournament and the winners in this format were Glen Harry in the 1st Flight and Larry Orton in the 2nd Flight. On August 2 we had a 4 man team scramble. The winners with a 37-3/4 net were the team of Ed Johnson, Carl Doak, Jim Agar and Ken Shutts. Also on this day, Bud Murray made a hole-in-one, for his eighth lifetime. Thanks for the drinks and hot dogs Bud.
We had a 2 man team blind draw format on August 9, which confused most everyone, but it came out as follows: 1st Flight team handicaps from 0-36 was won by Jay Nelson and Bob Rouleau with a 49 net total; and 2nd Flight with team handicaps from 37 and up, was won by Rich Featherstone and Bob Timms with a 48 net total.
August 14 and 16 we had a Home and Home Tournament with Oakwood. We played the Oakwood course on Thursday, August 14 and Palo Verde on Saturday, August 16. The winning foursome, with a two-day combined total net of 204 were Jack Hill, PVCC, Jack Wortley PVCC, Bob Strong of OCC and Neil Siegel of OCC. On August 23 we had another team event with a 1 assigned net best ball plus 1 other net best ball format. The winning teams (two) with a net 105 were John Mitchell, Gene Wenger, Bill Dwyer and Jeff Martin and Joel Bosch, Larry Orton, Richard Hair and Bob Forman.
Another of our members, Jack Harvey, passed away the first week in August. Our condolences and prayers go to his family.
With everyone starting to come back from their summer homes shortly, we will start having a monthly column starting next month.
