Jim Wegman, Publicity
Well, here we are in the “dog days” of August, struggling with the heat, the increased humidity and the monsoon rainstorms. On the plus side, the fairways are looking very green.
New Member. Thanks to Gary Nessel, one of our new members, we have another new member – Kyle Guss. Welcome, Kyle, and thanks, Gary.
Sadly, I must announce the passing of our friend and a true gentleman golfer, General William “Bill” Becker. Bill joined our league in 2010 and made a new friend of each member. Bill was a decorated aviator and a genuine patriot. We offer our deepest condolences to his daughter Lisa Spencer, sons Mark and Bill and to the extended Becker family on Bill’s passing. We have lost another one of “The Greatest Generation,” but we were lucky to have known Bill Becker.

Marking golf balls. Many of our golfers are using the same brand of golf balls, and when more than half the ball is sunk into mud or wet grass in the rough, it may be hard to identify the owner of the ball. A good practice is to mark your golf ball; use a colored marker, dots, lines, your initials or some mark significant to you. Remember, there is a process when lifting a ball for identification. If you are not sure of ball ownership, alert your playing partner, mark the ball’s position and carefully lift the ball. The ball, once identified, can be cleaned and should be carefully replaced.
