The original Reiki ideals as set forth by Reiki’s founder, Usui Mikao are as follows:
The secret art of happiness
The miraculous medicine of all diseases
Just for today, do not be angry
Do not worry and be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work and be kind to people
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer
Pray these words to your heart
And chant thee words with your mouth
Usui Reiki treatment for the improvement of body and mind
Although the Reiki principles of today have been modified for our time, the originals still ring true. Of course, if asked, we’d say we desire happiness. Could such a simple directive lead us to happiness? Let’s examine this a bit more closely.
When we become angry, we hurt ourselves more than we do another. Often we find ourselves being angry at things or situations that do not know we are angry. Our anger may take a toll on our heart and other organs.
Worry is the “art” of hoping dire events do not happen. Will it prevent these things from occurring? Perhaps they weren’t going to happen whether you worried or not. Moving our minds away from worry to gratitude for what we have, such as family, friends, a home, animals and so forth, reminds us how rich we truly are.
Putting your heart into your work or activities of the day and extending kindness to all allows you to feel good about yourself and your situation. Most often, kindness extended comes back to you tenfold.
Reminding yourself of these words through positive thought, prayer or repeated chanting will indeed bring you happiness.
If you’d like to join us at the Reiki Circle where we offer the kindness of sharing the Reiki energy to balance and calm, please do. We meet at 9:30 am every Tuesday in the Cottonwood Courtyard, Room A-2. We welcome you there.
