The respected Pew Research Institute headlined its October 2019 research: “In U.S., decline of Christianity continues at rapid pace.”
The Restless Minds discussion group will explore this development at its Tuesday, Dec. 10, meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Sewing Room of Oakwood’s Arts and Crafts Center.
During this holiday season, churches and other houses of worship will be teeming, but the Pew study found that in the last decade, adults describing themselves as Christian fell by one-sixth.
While there is virtually no change in attitude among people 75 and older, the study found that fewer than half of so-called Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) consider themselves Christian, and a full 40% say they are either atheist, agnostic, or “nothing.”
Meanwhile, mega-churches seem to be thriving. What sets them apart? Other questions likely to be discussed include: Is the Bible still relevant? What would society be like without organized religion? And why do Evangelicals seem to ignore issues of morality when it comes to the president?
Restless Minds is receptive to all people with open, inquisitive minds. There are no dues or membership requirements. All political and social points of view are encouraged to engage in this friendly exchange of ideas each month. Just show up and participate.
