“Mercy Ships: Experience on the Africa Mercy in 2018-2019” is the title of Anne Freyer’s program. Anne is a P.E.O. in Chapter DD, Sun Lakes, and is a registered pharmacist. She graduated from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy and received her MS in Pharmacy Administration at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy.
In the 1960s, Anne was inspired to volunteer and contribute to those in need of health care and education. As her life followed its course, she was offered the opportunity to volunteer and contribute to her local community. When she was preparing to retire from Cardinal Health, Inc., as Regional Director of Pharmacy Practice, she determined that this was the time to find what could be done. The Mercy Ships organization offered what she was looking for. Their vision, mission, and values matched her own firmly-held views, and she was excited to explore the opportunity.
Her program will present the Mercy Ships program, a 40-year mission, and the experience of those living and serving on Africa Mercy in Guinea in 2018. Africa Mercy is the largest non-governmental hospital ship in the world and provides vital surgeries to the people in the poorest countries of the world. She will describe what it meant to be one of the international professional crew members serving on the ship as a volunteer supporting the mission. Hopefully, you will learn more detail about the patients and the surgeries that were completed during that time in Guinea.
The coffee will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Lindsay Hall at the Sun Lakes United Methodist Church at 9248 East Riggs Road in Sun Lakes. The cost is $3 and no reservations are required.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization of women supporting women’s education. This support is given through scholarships, grants, loans, and the stewardship of Cottey College to motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
P.E.O. members, guests, visiting P.E.O.s, and others interested in the topic are invited to attend. Our hostesses, P.E.O. Groups B and C, will provide coffee, fruit, and pastries during the meet and greet time.
