Warren Wasescha, Sun Lakes Hiking Club
Interested in the thought of hiking socially with others? Come learn from our members what the Sun Lakes Hiking Club is all about at one of two open houses we are hosting in October.
Our first open house will be held in the Cottonwood Saguaro Room on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Our second open house will be in the Oakwood ballroom on Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. Get answers to your questions about the club and more.
Interested in socializing with us at our Welcome Back Picnic? It’s being held Nov. 4 at the Oasis Ramada in Cottonwood. It’s a time for existing Hiking Club members to reconnect and learn of summer activities, and also a time for prospective club members to meet and socialize with more of our club members. Picnic hours are noon to 2 p.m. The club will provide the main entrée, and attendees are asked to bring a side dish of their choice. For club members planning on attending the picnic, RSVP on the Meetup site so we can get a good headcount to better plan for food. Please also bring a lawn chair in case we run out of seating at the Ramada.
New members can also learn more about the club online. Just type in “Sun Lakes Hiking Club” in your web browser, and it will take you to our Meetup site. There you can view lots of information about our club, including past hikes the club has done, with hike descriptions and photos.
We hike formally from November through April at three different intensity levels on Mondays, and also offer a second weekly “Moderate” intensity level hike on Wednesdays. We are a friendly, inclusive group that welcomes all able-bodied hiking enthusiasts! Our club’s goal is to make group hiking fun, challenging, social, and safe.
Sun Lakes is an active adult community, and hiking is one of the many rewarding activities you can do in our community. Come check us out!
