Remember Bixbie? He was the golf ball who lived in my bag and played very erratically. His only redeeming feature was that he enjoyed the company of Cottonwood Ladies Golf Association members and was delighted each week to be part of fun and laughter and friendly competition. It is with deep sorrow that this serves to announce the demise of Bixbie. He has taken residence with many of his other round friends at the bottom of the lake on hole 18. During a recent Thursday event, Bixbie took his final plunge and now presumably rests in peace. More surprisingly, Bixbie’s cousin (Bouncy), being played alongside by another lady golfer, was hit with such skill that it caught an edge of the cart path and rolled over the bridge on the same hole to avoid the watery grave. Sometimes it is hard to concentrate through the laughter.
As you read this, we will have played two months of our 2023-24 season and will have celebrated our Christmas holiday. Be sure you keep up with the news of future events and results of past events on our spectacular website at cottonwoodwga.azgolf.org, which is kept in apple pie order by Webmaster Sandy Eeds.
Our gatherings for a “Sip and a Bite” after golf have been enhanced by the attendance of new members. It’s a wonderful way to connect and develop friendships. We often fill up the patio, and if it’s too cold, we’ll have three or four large tables inside. Please join us. There will be gatherings at Sisk Park during the administration of our newest president Zara Logan. The November gathering was a great success, and the planned January get-together promises to be as well. Be sure to come! If you are new to Sun Lakes or just retired and interested in a weekly guaranteed tee time, be in touch with Membership Chairman Patti Hegenbarth. You can join the club at any time during the year.
It is with tremendous gratitude that the Splash responsibility is being turned over to Cindy Edwards. She promises to be erudite and entertaining. Thank you, Zara, for your persistence to uncover a club. member who will make us proud.
