On March 26 at 11:00 a.m., Sun Lakes Friends of the Library is delighted to be hosting Patricia Bracewell, a novelist whose historical fiction has received rave reviews.
Her first book, Shadow on the Crown, began the story of Emma of Normandy in what will be a trilogy. Book number two, The Price of Blood, was released on February 5 of this year in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Mary Lignor, writing for Feathered Quill Book Reviews, says, “The Price of Blood is a story that will bring across a strong woman who, as was typical of her time, wasn’t consulted on anything. But while the men fight and scheme, Emma’s wisdom helped keep the kingdom together. This story kept me glued to the pages until the very end.”
Bracewell grew up in southern California, but she has always been fascinated with English history. In college she majored in English literature and traveled to Great Britain to see some of the places she had only read about. Then came graduate school, a Masters Degree and a California teaching certificate. She taught high school for a time, then left teaching to raise a family.
She wrote essays and short stories, but it wasn’t until she came across an English queen whose name was unfamiliar to her that her love for English history began to bear fruit.
Bracewell will be available to answer questions, read an excerpt from her book and autograph copies. Both of her books will be available for purchase at the event.
