Sun Lakes United Methodist Church will again present “Understanding the Journey of Dementia” by Dr. Maribeth Gallagher, DNP, Psych NP, FAAN. Dr Gallagher is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She serves as the Director of the Dementia Program at Hospice of the Valley and has been featured as a guest speaker at both national and international conferences. Dr. Gallagher’s work with the dementia program was awarded first place in 2012 by the International Journal of Palliative Nursing in London. Her commitment to optimizing dementia care was initially inspired by her own experiences as a family caregiver.
Participants will learn to
Understand dementia and how it progresses to advanced stages;
Develop strategies for maintaining meaningful connections with the person with dementia;
Value the caregiver role and explore ways to reduce stress.
The presentation will take place on March 26 at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church in Lindsay Hall. A complimentary continental breakfast will be provided. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the program is from 9:00 a.m.-noon. Call 602-776-6867 for reservations. Seating is limited.
