Sew-N-Sews keeps up the buzz. They are like BEES in the hive. All members are encouraged to BE themself, BE creative, BE generous, BE charitable, BE a learner, and BE an active member. The organization consistently has about 90 active members at each meeting. The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Friendship Interest Groups (FIGs) are always welcoming new members or even those who just want to see what the group is about. These groups, workshops, and classes are all held in the Sewing Room located in the Oakwood Activity building near the clubhouse. These groups are free to all members.

Many activities have been happening in the SIGs and FIGs. Garment Gustoz is working to encourage each other to find patterns, fabrics, and techniques to help each other create new garments. Pads 4 Paws continues to amaze all with their dedication to meet and make and provide 575 pads to donate to pets of veterans through the organization Lost Our Homes. The Embroidery Group met and created ornaments for both the Phoenix and Mesa Ronald McDonald Houses. These beautiful, free-standing lace ornaments made by the members were delivered on Dec. 6, 2024. The Friendship Group met for lunch in December at Keegan’s. They meet monthly on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Children’s Charity encourages members to help complete the goal of 150 Easter baskets. The members have come through, helping this goal to be met in the next few weeks. Some have even donated pillowcases, crayon/coloring book caddies, and a few bears for donations to groups like the police departments, Child Crisis, and Amanda Hope.

Sew-N-Sews continues to offer classes taught by members each month. These classes run either a full day or half day, and fees remain very reasonable, plus your cost of materials. Such a great deal for a fun time! Some amazing projects are completed during these classes. Coming up are classes for a wine tote, sewing gadget holder, sweatshirt upcycle, burrito pillowcase, and thread painting. There are also plans for Sew-N-Sews’ traditional Christmas in July workshops for members. While classes have nominal fees, all workshops are free.

Sew-N-Sews keeps providing opportunities for learning and building new friendships. There’s always room for more friends. Sew-N-Sews is always welcoming new members and guests at their monthly meetings held in the Navajo Room in Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. These monthly meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month and begin at 1 p.m. The next meeting will be Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. in the Navajo Room.
