Seniors Facing Problems Aging in Place

Dwight Flatt

Seniors in need of help with housing or even, more importantly, in putting food on their tables can get information about these areas by attending the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) March 10 meeting in the Sun Lakes Country Club Navajo Room at 7 p.m.

Speakers will include Dean Scheinert, executive director of the Justa Center, an organization solely focused on older adults experiencing homelessness. Seniors today make up 30% of the homeless population in Arizona, and Scheinert will share how Justa can help with that need and others.

Also speaking at the meeting will be Jennifer Francisco, executive director of Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank, an organization supported by the SLDC since 2011. Come and hear from Jennifer Francisco about the life-saving programs not only for seniors (Senior Food Boxes) but also for students (Weekend Backpacks).

In addition to receiving an update on bills going through the Arizona House and Senate, attendees will hear from Chandler Unified School District board member and administrator Claudia Mendoza. Mendoza, who was elected to the board in the 2024 election, will update everyone on the many issues impacting the school district budget.

SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on March 10 in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, located at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N, Sun Lakes. You can also join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee the first Friday of every month at Kneaders Bakery located at 1090 West Queen Creek Road in Chandler.

We support Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the meeting or made online at matthewscrossing.org. You can receive a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar, tax deductible donation.
