Winners Net Kudos at IronOaks Tennis Club’s Gender Doubles Tournament

The IronOaks Tennis Club (IOTC) hosted an exciting, weeklong Gender Doubles Tournament Jan. 13–18. More than 40 matches were held over six days, and 24 teams participated. The annual event celebrated winning teams in men’s and women’s 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 level doubles play.

Following are the results of the doubles pairs winners:

Men’s 3.0

1st Place: Sonny Sonico and Wade Knoss

2nd Place: Dave Rokosek and Derek Mansfield

Men’s 3.5

1st Place: Trace Gentry and Mike Davin

2nd Place: Lou Grecco and Jerry Geiszler

Men’s 4.0

1st Place: Tim Sherman and Bob Lynne

2nd Place: Arif Khan and Buddy Wayne

The men’s 3.0 teams went head-to-head to decide the prize winners. The 3.5 teams also went head-to-head to determine second place. At the 4.0 level, a three-way tie drove placements to the best percentage of games won to determine the winners.

Women’s 3.0

1st Place: Mary Stephens and Beth Jensen

2nd Place: Julie Tunnell and Lori Wold

Women’s 3.5

1st Place: Kristina Traylor and Lois Newman

2nd Place: Jo Lucas and Vicky Fisher

Women’s 4.0

1st Place: Barb Jorgensen and Cathy Coin

2nd Place: Kay Wengert and Mary Ellen O’Brien

The women’s 3.0 team went to a tiebreak to determine first- and second-place winners. With the 3.5 teams, solid play defined first- and second-place winners. At the 4.0 level, first and second place came down to a head-to-head matchup that went to a tiebreak with a close match down to the final point.

The IronOaks Tennis Club of Sun Lakes is a nonprofit organization promoting programs that encourage participation in tennis at all skill levels for its members. IOTC provides an active tennis program that includes organized play, social play, league play, tournaments, and intra- and inter-club events.
