Ladies with their beverage totes
Eileen Turner
The 2024-25 season has been an egg-stra egg-citing year. The Sew-N-Sews season progresses with new projects, some nearing completion and others still in progress. It’s exciting to see goals met or exceeded as in the case of Pads4Paws and Children’s Charities. Both have been very successful this year through the generosity of the Sew-N-Sews members and the Sun Lakes Rotary Club donation. Their donation helped fill 150 Easter baskets with goodies for children at Amanda Hope and Child Crisis Center in Mesa. Some pillowcases were made and delivered to the Chandler Police Department to ease some unfortunate experiences for children in need. Each year, the support and the final donations have increased.
New workshops/classes are being offered to the members, thanks to a donation from the Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation. This donation will provide financial compensation to guest speakers, class teachers, and materials needed for projects. Rita Grant has taught 24 women to make tote bags. Tote bags became the latest fashion accessory trend at Sew-N-Sews meetings. Several ladies made insulated beverage totes. Nancy Kirk taught a class in Painting with Thread. The members of the class use their sewing machines and stitch their painting. The class is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of April. New skills and techniques are always offered. Upcycling has become popular with members to accessorize and update an outfit. Jan Maresh, a member of Sew-N-Sews and author of Sewing for Dummies, 4th Edition, has assisted the Gusto Garment Group in this endeavor, and she presented at the March general meeting.
Sew-N-Sews has planned an egg-stra special event for the April 9 general meeting. This is a first for Sew-N-Sews. At the general meeting on April 9 the organization will be hosting a Round Table. This will be a great opportunity for members to be even more inspired. If you have been thinking about seeing what is happening with Sew-N-Sews, this might be a great meeting to attend.
Guests are welcome to attend two meetings. As a guest, you will see all the benefits offered by this organization. Meetings are always on the first Wednesday of each month in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd., beginning at 1 p.m.
Sew-N-Sews can be reached by email at [email protected], or you can come to a meeting.
