The Nine-Hole Couples League had their annual end of the year party. This year’s theme was a Roundup at the Oakwood Corral on March 28. Lots of cowgirls and cowboys attended and had a great time. We had a putting contest, a whiskey tasting, a silent auction, a western-themed trivia game, and 100 prizes for the participants. Everyone enjoyed the evening, which was topped off with a western barbeque of ribs and brisket and, of course, mac and cheese and beans, a cowpoke’s dream dinner. We heard there were a few Lynchburg Lemonades consumed, along with a few brews.
Jane Steffes was head cowgirl and put a team together that was outstanding. Jane is a remarkable organizer. She gave out assignments, and all tasks were handled perfectly by each committee member. The ballroom was decked out with a western-themed backdrop where Rachel Enloe took many fine pictures of couples decked out in their finest cowhand outfits.
There were a few game holes on the course and a drink cart to help get the party started. Everyone participated in the mulligan and magic putt raffle.
Our next big event will be to present the director of the Chandler High School Girls Golf team with a nice big check to help support the league. More than 100 gently used golf clubs, 12 golf bags, and hundreds of golf balls and other miscellaneous equipment were generously donated to help with this worthy cause.
Soon the “season” will be over and we will be waving so long to our friends returning to their homes in cooler climates. We wish you safe travels, and we’ll see you in November for more golf and fun.
