The Gila Butte Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) has been busy, even though we are approaching our summer break.
Members attended the Basha High School Air Force JROTC awards and Change of Command Ceremony. Gila Butte Chapter presented two awards. Recipients are selected by the AFJROTC Commander. A senior receives a certificate, Outstanding JROTC medal, and $100. The Youth Citizen Award is given to an underclass student, also chosen by the AFJROTC Commander, who receives a certificate, medal, and $50. To see the dedication and spirit of the Basha High School AFJROTC was inspiring.
The Daughters also attended two Honor Flight Welcome Home celebrations at Sky Harbor Airport. Seeing the reaction of the veterans is so moving, letting them know how much their service to our country means to us.
The Gila Butte Chapter members attended the Arizona DAR State Conference on May 30 and 31 at We-Ko-Pa Resort. This was an opportunity for our chapter members to meet members from across the state and to network on new ideas and what other chapters do for the Daughters of the American Revolution goals of patriotism, education, and historic preservation.
Though some of our members will be heading out of town for the summer, our chapter will be planning for the upcoming chapter year, which begins in September. We will be working on programs and events for our chapter.
Whatever plans you may have for the summer—being with friends, family, or travel—we look forward to seeing you in September.
Anyone interested in joining DAR should contact Ruth at ruth@narancic.com. The chapter can provide assistance with lineage research to prospective members if needed.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, charitable organization, founded in 1890 and incorporated by an act of the United States Congress in 1896. Membership in the society is open to women 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. The DAR functions as a volunteer service organization and is dedicated to Patriotism, Education, and Historic Preservation. While DAR supports a strong national defense, it is not a political organization, nor does it lobby. Its membership includes women from all political parties. The society does not subscribe to any particular religion nor does it discriminate against any members who are of various religious beliefs.
