Travel news: The Governor of Hawaii signed a tourist tax on hotels and cruise ships recently, saying he wanted to raise $100 million a year. If you are staying at your favorite hotel in the islands, you will see charges now of anywhere from $50 on up a day tourist tax.
Ideas for upcoming travel: the Mekong River, the Nile River with Jordan extension, Japan to Hong Kong, or round-trip Tokyo for 14 days.
Think of the Galapagos and Celebrity’s amazing new ship in that part of the world, which is all-inclusive.
Folks are traveling this summer to the Great Lakes region, many going to New England and Cape Cod. Lots of folks are doing river cruises on the Danube, Seine River to Normandy Beaches, and with American Cruise Lines on the Hudson River. In Europe we have had a lot of folks doing the Baltic countries, which is good, because this is the jubilee year for Italy, and it is packed.
Think New England for the fall. Oceania has a nice sailing Oct. 29 from Montreal to Miami on the new ship Allura, with gratuities included.
On March 17, 2026, Oceania has another wonderful cruise: Rio De Janeiro to Miami, 21 days, sailing five nights on the Amazon River.
We look forward to seeing you all in the fall, but if you want to get away this winter for a holiday cruise, now is the time to get that booked. Also, in Alaska next summer, we should start to book those as well, especially if you have family groups.
