Message from the President

Leonard Horst

It has already been a scorcher of a summer, and we have a couple of months of it ahead of us. Scientists and psychologists have long studied the effects of extreme heat on humans and found there is a direct connection between long periods of heat, mood swings, and resulting behaviors. In layman’s terms, people tend to get a little crankier, less patient with one another, and, at times, quite belligerent! A wise, elderly woman once said to me, “A smile is a little curve that straightens everything out!” I have pondered this saying over the years and believe there is more truth in it now than ever!

Across our Association, we have observed an increase in less-than-desirable behaviors and, in some cases, outright verbal assaults that are simply not acceptable in our community. We are an active, 55+ group of people who moved here to enjoy the multitude of amenities offered and each other’s company. It is okay to have different opinions on any given topic, and it is okay to express those opinions in a respectful manner. There are many avenues to share your thoughts with management and the board, and you are encouraged to use them. Comment cards are available throughout the community, at the Administration office, or by emailing admin@sunlakes2.com or the appropriate manager. Our general manager welcomes your calls and is available for an in-person meeting by appointment.

Our world is certainly more stressful than in prior years, and it will take all of us practicing kindness and respect to change it for the better. Remember, “A smile is a little curve that straightens everything out!” Be well and be safe!
