Sun Lakes Republican Club to Meet September 10

Carolyn McCorkle

The Sun Lakes Republican Club will feature “Safety and Security in Sun Lakes,” with Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan, at its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. You will also meet Representative Julie Willoughby, candidate for Arizona State Senate in our Legislative District 13. The public is invited. Please bring your friends and neighbors! Our mission is “Education for an Informed Electorate.” Light desserts will be provided for your enjoyment.

Our Sun Lakes members, neighbors, and friends highly value the safety and security of our own personal life and property, as well as the safety of our very special active adult living community. Sheriff Sheridan will be reporting on the status of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department since his 2024 election. In addition, the Sheriff will be bringing with him the Commander who is responsible for the Sheriff’s duties and actions in Sun Lakes, who will offer his community report and be available to answer your questions.

Sheriff Jerry Sheridan oversees the fourth-largest sheriff’s office in the country. Born and raised in Queens, N.Y., Jerry was inspired by his father, a New York City police officer. After relocating to Arizona in 1976, Jerry joined the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy in 1977. Over the next four decades, he rose through the ranks, serving as detention officer, deputy sheriff, patrol deputy, lieutenant, captain, and Chief of Custody.

Appointed by three governors to the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board, Sheridan holds a master’s degree in organizational management and is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. He later served as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Joe Arpaio during a period of intense federal scrutiny, audits, and organizational challenges. Jerry is committed to giving back to the agency, its employees, and the citizens of Maricopa County, honoring the department that shaped his lifelong career in law enforcement.

Representative Willoughby is in her second term of office and has been serving as our Legislative District 13 State Representative since 2023. She is a registered nurse with experience in various areas of healthcare and healthcare leadership, with a large portion of her career dedicated to trauma emergency medicine.

A graduate of Gateway Community College and Arizona State University, Willoughby holds her Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Leadership and Management. Julie has been serving us well in the Arizona House as the Majority Whip and on the committees of Health and Human Services, Appropriations, and Judiciary.

We endeavor to invite all Republican candidates to attend our meetings so that you will have the opportunity to meet them before the 2026 primary. For more information, visit our website at www.SunLakesRepublicanClub.org or contact Mike Tennant at 262-880-4620.
