Arizona Attorney General (AG) Kris Mayes, who is running for re-election in the 2026 General Election, will make a return visit to address members of the Sun Lakes Democratic Club (SLDC) at the club’s Oct. 13 meeting.

Mayes first addressed SLDC members when running for the Attorney General slot in the 2024 General Election. Since then, Mayes, a graduate of the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law (ASU) and a former Arizona Corporation Commissioner, has been instrumental in joining other state AGs to file lawsuits in support of the rule of law and, most recently, in investigating abuses in the Education Scholarship Accounts (ESA) program.

Joining Mayes at the 7 p.m. meeting in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club is Brian Hualde, candidate for the Democratic nomination in U.S. Congressional District 5. Hualde, a fourth-generation Arizonan, served in the Army as a medic and now lives in the East Valley where he is a healthcare provider. Hualde will provide his assessment of the issues facing Congressional candidates in the next election.

SLDC members attending the meeting will also receive an update on the Chandler Unified School District’s (CUSD) Bond and Override Election scheduled for Nov. 4. Residents of Sun Lakes and others who reside in the CUSD will receive their mail-only ballots starting on Oct. 8.

Another item on the November ballot will be Prop 409, the bond for Behavioral Health and Emergency Care, and a speaker will address this topic as well.

In addition to the featured speakers, members can expect to see other candidates running in the 2026 Primary and/or General Election. It’s your opportunity to meet the candidates and, at the very least, sign their petitions.

SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N, Sun Lakes. We also invite you to join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee on the first Friday of every month at Denny’s at 4977 S. Arizona Avenue in Chandler.

We support Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the meeting or made online at matthewscrossing.org. You can receive a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar, tax-deductible donation.
